C.E.D.A Board of Directors: Cathy Collins Cathy Collins is a resident of West Alexander. Her
association with CEDA began in 1992 and this relationship
resulted in saving a house on She is also a visual artist, accordion player
and foster parent to several cats. Gwen Cook I have been with the CEDA Board for two years as an Equity group representative. I am a proud Cree woman. My parents are the late Alfred Head, originally from James Smith/Fort Lacorne First Nation, Saskatchewan, the late Margaret Head, originally Wyckstandt/Buck from Mosiehken First Nation (Moose Lake), Manitoba. I am the mother of Jason, Denise and Rudi. I am a Traditionalist, continuing to learn and incorporate Traditional Teachings into my life for the past 15 years. My work experience includes working as a Social Worker in the Inner City of Winnipeg for ten years, and working as a travelling Therapist in the Interlake Tribal territory, as well as working with an Aboriginal Healing Foundation program, as Coordinator of the Opikiwawasowin Parenting Program with the Cree Nation Tribal Health organization in the Swampy Cree area in Northern Manitoba. I am presently instructing Aboriginal Social Work Students at the Inner City Campus of the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Social Work in the Aboriginal Child Welfare Initiative, Bachelor of Social work Degree. The courses I teach are Human Behavior, Introduction to Social Sciences and Field Focus in Aboriginal Child Welfare. In addition I am an Academic Advisor, Counsellor and Field Instructor. I will be continuing my university education, beginning my PhD Program in September 2006. Marti Ford Since graduating from university, I have worked in
the Aboriginal community both as an educator and volunteer.
I have been involved with CEDA for a number of years through
community activities and the Urban Aboriginal Education
Coalition. Last year I became a board member to represent
the community through my role at Astrid Macneil I am of the Oji-Cree Nation. My work has centered on
the integration of Aboriginal world views in education and
community capacity building. I work at Sexuality Education
Resource Centre, with the guidance of White Wolf Speaking
Council, to promote sexual and reproductive health through
community education. My interest and support of community-based programs
lies in the fact that community knows best what its needs and
aspirations are. My involvement on the CEDA Board provides
opportunity to ensure that the vision for Aboriginal community
education is upheld, that we widen our scope of understanding to
include new Canadians and to keep current in our information
about issues that affect the communities we serve. Greg Slobodeski Greg has been Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of the CEDA Board of Directors since 2002. Through his work with the North End Community Renewal Corporation, he has been involved in a wide array of community development work since 2000. Greg also holds a number of volunteer positions with such initiatives as the North End Safety Network, Winnipeg Committee for Safety and the Urban Futures Group. Barb Yussack A single parent, Barbara Yussack's involvement with
CEDA began 24 years ago, with the Fort Rouge School Parent
Council. She moved back to the North End the following
year, and continued her community work with the King Edward
Community School Parent Council, as well as chairing the Board
of Directors of KEEP Child Care, Inc. for 5 years. With
CEDA's help, she initiated the first preschool spaces at KEEP.
Barbara has remained active within the community. A
founding member of the Burrows Central Residents Council, she
has just completed a term as the CEDA Board Secretary and
continues to represent CEDA's Board on the Communications
Committee.
