Community Schools Innovation Site Program

CEDA is working in partnership with the United Way and the Winnipeg School Division to start this initiative in 2009 in Hugh John Macdonald School and in 2010 in Shaughnessy Park School. The purpose of the program is to promote community and school partnerships in these schools by encouraging further parental participation in the local schools, promoting program and resource development, and issue based organizing involving education and local neighbourhood concerns.

Hugh John Macdonald School serves youth in Grade 7 to Grade 9. CEDA is working in partnership with the local school to encourage parental involvement in the parent council, provide support to the student council, support the development of an internship/apprenticeship program for Grade 9 students, provide assistance for after school learning activities and transition supports for newcomer students, organize after school leisure and recreational programs for students, support the development of student engagement and student retention strategies for Grade 7 students, assist the school with resource development and fundraising for identified community school initiatives, promote inter-agency coordination of services in the local neighbourhood, and support the development of settlement and transition services in the school for adults and families.
