Betty
Edel - Co-Director
Betty has
been involved with the Community Education Development
Association in various capacities for the past 22 years. Prior
to her employment at CEDA she worked at Hope Centre Health Care
for 5 years in the capacity of social worker.
Betty resides
in the north end of
Winnipeg
with her husband and mother. She has 2 children and 5
grandchildren.
Betty attained her social work degree from the University
of
Manitoba
in the mid 80’s. She has spent her entire volunteer and
employment working on social justice issues that impact
residents of the inner city.
Betty was one
of the founding members of the North End Housing Project as well
as the North End Community Renewal Corporation. Betty has sat on
the Board of Directors of SPLASH Childcare run out of Strathcona
School
as well as Andrews Street Family Centre.
Betty is
currently on the Board of Directors of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata
Centre. She enjoys her work
because it is an opportunity to meet new people, share ideas and
work together for change.
Currently
Betty is managing the Community Development/ Community Economic
Development program being sponsored by CEDA.
Tom
Simms - Co-Director
Tom Simms has worked with CEDA for the
past 25 years.
He is currently the Co-Director of the
organization. The projects that Tom is currently working on
include the Centennial Neighbourhood Project, Community School
Partnership Initiative, Just Education Coalition, Ma Mawi/CEDA
Aboriginal human resource strategy research project, and the
development of the a new community development corporation that
would serve the Central Park, West Alexander and Centennial
neighbourhoods.
Muriel
Lamy - Administrative Support
Muriel
has worked for CEDA and NECRC for 6 1/2 years. She was hired as
Administrative Assistant for CEDA at a time when they were in
transition of sharing office space with North End Community
Renewal Corporation at CEDA's current location. As both
organizations grew, her responsibilities also grew.
Muriel
is responsible for most of
the accounting for both organizations along with payrolls,
accounts receivable, accounts payable, directing all incoming
calls, and everything else that is needed. She has lived all her life in the North End and really enjoys
working at CEDA and working with all the people that do come in
and out of the office.
Connie
Pattie - Community Development Coordinator
Connie
has been with C.E.D.A. since October, 2004.
She is the Community Development Coordinator for the
Urban Aboriginal Education Coalition. since June 2005.
Prior
to that she worked as a community development worker intern at
the Urban Aboriginal Education Coalition from October, 2004 to
June, 2005. She
is currently
attending
Red River
College
part-time in the
Community Development and Community Economic Development
program.
Connie
is Aboriginal, a parent
of a 10-year-old son and has resided in the North End community
for over 12 years. She
currently lives in the
St. John’s
Neighbourhood. She
is educated in the fields of community development, management,
child & youth Care, human resources, counseling, and
employment & training. She
has done a lot of work in the inner city of
Winnipeg
. Connie has been employed in many areas such as project development, advocacy, counseling, youth programs
, women’s programs, youth justice, school programs and with
the homeless. She is
passionate about empowerment of individuals and communities
particularly Aboriginal people.
Robert
De Coste - Centennial
Community Coordinator
Robert has
lived in the Centennial for most of his life. In his
professional career Robert has been a Social Worker for 30 years
as either a paid employee or as a volunteer. Robert served as a
founding member of Rossbrook House inc. and has worked at the Ma
Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Family Violence Program.
His most recent employment prior to working for C.E.D.A
was as the Coordinator of the Men’s Healing Program at the
Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre. In 1991 Robert
completed his studies and obtained hi Bachelor of Social Work
Degree from the University
of
Manitoba.
In the
Centennial project Robert and the community are working on a
number of initiatives and projects. One of these initiatives is
the implementation of their 5 year housing plan. The Housing
Committee is over seeing and guiding this implementation.
Working alongside the community and various committees, Robert
also works to support the development of other initiatives
pertaining to Safety, Education, Employment, and creating a
better relationship with the Winnipeg Police services.
Ronda Garrioch -
Community Development Coordinator
Ronda is the
coordinator for the Dufferin area. She started work at CEDA
earlier this fall, October 3,2006. Prior to this, Ronda was the
coordinator for the volunteer program at Andrews Street Family
Centre for eight years where she really enjoy working with
community.
Ronda
grew up in the North End neighborhood and attended some of the
many schools in the community. She has two children, Rosa who is
16 years old, Joey age 6, and her niece Stephini who is 14 years
old.
Tammy Ernst - Program Support
Worker - CD/CED Training Intermediary
Tammy is the coordinator of the
Community Development/Community Economic Development Training
Intermediary Program. She
is a recent newcomer to Winnipeg having hailed from Edmonton
where she was involved in various community development and
research projects that focused on furthering women’s economic
health. Her
educational background is in Community Development with a
continuing focus in project management.
Sally
B. Wai - Community Development Worker, Centennial Park
Sally
is a Sierra Leonean refugee from West Africa. She completed her
secondary education
St. Joseph’s Convent, proceeding on to the National School of Nursing
after High School where she attained a State Enrolled Nursing
Diploma (SEN). Sally worked for the Sierra Leone Government and
worked in various capacities in various locations.
In 1975, she joined her husband in England, where she worked as a nurse.
In
later years, Sally worked served as the Associate
Dean of Student Services at Cuttington
University College. Throughout her career, she has gained a vast
array of experience as both an advocate and community activist /
organizer for children, youth, women and families. Currently,
Sally is enrolled at the Inner City Social Work program at the University
of Manitoba
pursuing a degree in social work.
Roxane
Kopitonchuk - Youth Opportunity Program Coordinator
Roxane has
worked for C.E.D.A. since August 2003 and is the Youth
Opportunity Program Coordinator working out of St. John’s High
School. She has five years
experience in community development and recently graduated from
the Community Development / Economic Development Program at Red
River College. Roxanne is
currently Co-Chair of the Burrows Central Resident’s Council,
board member of North End Community Renewal Corporation (NECRC) and is a speaker for United Way.
She lives and works in the North-End.

West Alexander Community Development Coordinator.
Sandra
Guiboche
Sandra
has been working for CEDA in the Centennial Community for just
under a year. She is currently in her 3 rd year of obtaining her
Bachelor of Social Work Degree at the William Norrie Campus on
Selkirk Ave.
She is the proud mother of her two daughters, Sky and Raven and
her partner Brien who provide tremendous support and
understanding when duty calls. Sandra believes in building
community capacity at a grass roots level. Community Development
is her passion and there is no other place she would rather be
working.
Cassandra
Buchan
Cassandra is
a recent addition to the CEDA family. She is the program support
worker for the CD/CED Training Intermediary. Cassandra has an
Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Justice &
Law Enforcement as well as an Honours Bachelor of Social Work
degree. She is
passionate about social justice issues and enjoys spending time
with her dog Snickers!
Beth
Fernandes - Community Development Worker, West Alexander Area
Beth is a Community Development Worker in the West Alexander Area.
She is also a resident of the inner city area, which has
provided her with additional insight to her new Career.
Beth's educational background includes a Social Work Diploma,
complemented with years of experience working with diverse
groups of people. Learning,
changing and growing is part of her everyday life while sharing
this development journey with the community of West Alexander.
