Welcome!

CEDA is a community development/community economic development organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the neighborhoods in which we work.

The Board includes inner city residents, inner city service organizations, and community economic development representatives.

CEDA’s mission is “journeying together towards healthy communities”. As such, CEDA utilizes a self-help community development approach which encourages local people to find sustainable solutions to issues identified by the local community, in areas such as employment, neighbourhood safety, better housing, social justice and economic development.

A message from CEDA Co-Directors:

Welcome to the launch of the Community Education Development Association’s website. The website was inspired by a desire to ensure we were reaching as many people as possible with information that covers the work of CEDA and the scope of events that were taking place in the community.

CEDA is celebrating 27 years of working with communities on concerns that impact the quality of life for those working, living and playing in the inner city. Initially CEDA ‘s work was concentrated on connecting the school with the people that lived in the surrounding catchment areas. We assisted parents and residents to become involved with the school by promoting and implementing adult learning opportunities, programming for children over the summer months, as well as promoting the voice of parents in the decision making options available at the local school.

Although CEDA has, for several years now, been removed from direct contact with the local schools, we remained connected to all the issues that make a school and a community a safe, healthy and welcoming experience for the children, youth and adults.

We assisted in the implementation of the  Mountain / Andrews / Parr/ Selkirk (M.A.P.S.) Housing Co-op as well as the North End Housing Project. We have in the past, will continue to do so in the future, work with community residents, organizations, groups and various governmental authorities to respond to the various concerns and issues that need to be addressed.

CEDA is currently working with youth out of Children of the Earth High School as well as St.John’s High School in a stay in school program. We are working on urban Aboriginal education issues with various partners and the community to respond to the needs of children and youth. We are working with local residents in the Dufferin, Central Park, Centennial and West Alexander communities to respond to the concerns identified there. We continue to work on adult education opportunities thorough our partnership with RRC in proving training on how to be a community development/community economic development worker.

As always, the staff at CEDA wish to thank all the people that have shared their knowledge, wisdom and skills with u s on the journey of turning things around. Together, we learn from each other and make the community a healthy place in which to live, work and play.
